We are at the Park Hotel in Chiang Mai. It is about 4:45 pm and we've traveled most of the day -- at least it feels like that. The good part is that I've been able to saok in the countryside. [This little roadside sala by a rice field could have been identically the same 40 years ago.] The bad part is that it has felt like one big long bus trip. We are 3 nights in this hotel and other than trips around the area, we aren't using the bus. Then we fly back to Bangkok, leaving the bus here. Tomorrow is about an hour's drive to the Elephant Camp. Yippee -- that should be real cool.

Dec 23 Chiang Saen to Chiang Mai 2
